Instructional Pedagogical Approach

During my fieldwork observations of the second grade in PS 119, I had the opportunity to observe some of their social studies lessons. One the lessons was based on a reading aloud of the fairytale Little Red Riding Hood as a medium to teach the students the importance of following instruction given by authority figures and the consequences of disobeying them. This lesson was part of the topics regarding the Civic Ideals and Practices, which is one of the inquires developed in second grade.
In this particular classroom, the teacher has a Differentiated Instructional pedagogical approach. An instance of this, was the way she introduced lesson main topic, during the reading part of the lesson. The demographic information of the community is essential in the order to set a good classroom environment and understand the students’ needs. It also constitutes an endless source of teaching material. The dynamic inside the classroom is a reflection of the community. The students bring into the classroom their communal experiences and it is up to the teacher/s maximize the beneficial aspects of said experiences. The instructional context make use of the community resources and the classroom dynamics in order to generate optimal lessons to fulfill the need for knowledge of the students. Basically, the three elements of the context for leaning are interdependent of each other; hence, it is necessary to take into account the information provided by them before engaging in the elaboration of a lesson plan. In the future, great attention must be given to these elements while preparing a lesson plan, because the failure or success of the students depends on how well attuned are they with the lessons delivered to
