What do you think it would be like to be an immigrant to the US? Imagine leaving your home, maybe a home that you’ve lived in for your entire life, and coming to a new place where you don’t know or understand many others. That’s what life as an immigrant would be like. Once you got to the US, how would you adjust? In this essay, I’m going to teach you about the best ways for immigrants to fit into the US. The most obvious way for immigrants to fit in when arriving in the US would be to learn and speak English fluently, right? Well most immigrants don’t know that it’s fairly easy to find classes to learn English for kids and adults. The local school board usually offers ESL classes for adults, and offers extra after-school classes for children to learn English (How Immigrants). If you can speak English, finding a job, going to school, and even something as simple as going to the grocery store will be a lot easier. Most people in the US would tell you, it’s very hard to live an everyday life without a job. You wouldn’t be making money to buy a house, buy a car, or support you and your family. To get a job in the US, you need to work hard. Jobs aren’t just given to you, and a hard worker is more appealing to a boss or manager that someone who thinks they will not have to work hard to earn money. Lots of US citizens think that immigrants are stealing jobs from them, but they’re wrong. Immigrants actually create other jobs for US citizens, and they do very different jobs than Americans (The Atlantic).
