As I approached the check-in agent, I could feel my stomach pulsating as I held back the tears, trying to be brave in front of mother and my family members. I looked in my mother's brown eyes and found no trace of tears shed. This was not her first experience of saying goodbye to a family member. She had experienced it with her siblings, my father and my sister. Now me. "But why would she shed tears though?" I asked myself rhetorically. She had prayed for this day to come and notwithstanding the cost of departing from her loved one, she embraced the day with joy and delight. She sacrificed a lot to have me arrive at this destination, fully cognizant that leaving for another country was imperative in building a brighter future for me.

She instilled in me the value of education and she sacrificed her time and comfort to ensure that I acquired the best education. During this period, my country provided its citizens with a low standard government-sponsored high school education. While other low-income parents jumped at this opportunity, my mom refused to allow her children become victims of an unfair socioeconomic system where the elite were able to attain the best quality of education. Despite the financial hardships, my mom took out loans from her place of work to pay the high-priced tuition of private high school where I would obtain the best education. After working for nine hours and preparing dinner for her family, my mother created time to assist me with homework and studying. As I grew up, school work became more advanced and complicated. Realizing that she was of little help, she hired tutors to assist me with my school work. She wholeheartedly believes that my future is worth the investment. The outcome of my education will be justification of that
