Recently America gained the forty-fifth president of the United States. Before Americans could gain a new president the candidates had to run against each other and convince the people that they are the best person of choice. On election day the candidates were narrowed down to two choices democrat, Hillary Clinton and Republican, Donald Trump. The election was won by Donald Trump due to electoral votes. Truly Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by millions, but she did not win with electoral votes. The electoral college ever so often causes candidates to lose the election even though they technically won with popular votes. Although the political system has been using the electoral college voting for years, it should consider using popular votes in the election instead. The electoral college has been a system used for electing a president long as the constitution was written. According to “What Is”, written in the constitution by the founding fathers of American, the twenty-third amendment confirms that the electoral voting system is used to elect a president. Furthermore, using popular votes to elect a new president could give Americans more freedom of choice. As for individuals that disagree with popular votes, they are content with the way the government is running the voting system. Although the electoral college does help to pick senators and representatives, popular votes a more relevant when choosing a president; even if the candidates running against each other win one more state than the other and the other candidate has more votes, the person with the most states will win. Popular votes are very important for Americans future because using this tactic to elect a new president could help elect the president that majority of the people want as
