How Technology Has Changed Education
Today’s education differs much from the education fifty years ago. One of the reasons they are so different is because of technology. In the past fifty years the world of technology has grown tremendously, affecting everything, including education. A few things that have been brought into the world of education are computers, video and digital equipment such as DVDs, digital cameras and recording devices. The technology also includes information presentation technologies which includes the Smart Board, and different interactive whiteboards. There are many more that schools did not have fifty years ago. Technology has been proven to help students achieve in reading, writing, and arithmetic.

There are some questions as to what kind of technology is appropriate for a mathematics classroom, deciding what tools can be difficult. Making these decisions is crucial to students’ learning and understanding of the subject. Today, practicing mathematicans are not looking for single answers, but multiple answers through models and simulations. (Hodges, and Conner 7) In today’s society, cell phones are a huge part of our lives. Cell phones may not be a tool for learning, but it elevates education in many ways. For student’s homes or classrooms with no computers, cell phones may have internet access can help gain knowledge and research. Many teachers also use cell phones to connect with students through group texting. Parents are also getting used to cell phones in the classroom. Teachers can now text parents and send out and update them on the student’s progress. Many old fashioned teachers are against using cellphones in the classroom, but it is said that educators are aiming to prepare students for the world of today, not classrooms of yesterday. It may be difficult for teachers to educate students with technology if they are not comfortable with the technology themselves. Most teachers are uncomfortable with teaching because of the
