In middle school and high school, we all must understand that all those years of education matter too. Like Davidson states at the end of the article, “[w]hen you think of learning as something external to yourself, learning becomes a levy- an assessment, not an asset. The assessment no longer matters after the schooling stops. The asset is a resource one draws on for a lifetime” (Davidson 68). An asset is something that is beneficial and valuable to a person. With the attitude of making education an asset, the students need to think of schooling something valuable. Education is an asset because education and schooling is required in order to complete many career paths. Without the proper schooling, one cannot become a doctor, lawyer or a teacher. In order to attain these end goals, a student would have to focus on the task at hand and not get distracted by the technology that is used in the classroom. The student would also have to have the willingness to learn and get educated and understand that everything he or she learns from this point on is key in order for them to move forward and go onto college and have the career he or she wants to have. It can also give students a reason to want to come to school because they get to experience something new. However, with technology and its constant uses, there can be a creation of negative effects on a student’s ability to communicate and willingness to learn. Technology becomes the biggest distraction especially for students if they are exposed to it at a very young age. Nowadays kids can enjoy technology in their own homes due to their parents’ phones and the television and other forms of technology they may possess. And by adding other forms of technology into the classroom, we are creating more distractions for children and changing the way they could be learning.
