Security presence can help forestall school violence in the U.S., along with visual and sound-related radio frameworks to keep undesirable guests from entering, in addition to a zero-resilience arrangement for weapons for all students and school faculty. Due to schools lacking in proper preventive means, troublesome events have occurred which leads, to the belief that schools are no longer as secure of an environment as they once were; to reverse this, schools must enforce more severe protective means.
Due to an outbreak in suburban school violence in the 1990s, zero tolerance laws remain in effect on many campuses. According to the findings on gun control policies in schools by author and activist, Dr. Finley, it is a fact that "the 1990 Gun-Free School Zones Act required schools to expel students for no less than a year if they brought weapons to school. Later, the 1994 Gun-Free Schools Act provided funds to schools to enact mandatory minimum policies for specific offenses. All 50 states have since added zero tolerance laws, with most addressing weapons, drugs, and alcohol." (Finley 116). Supporters believe that zero resilience laws provide a safe and drug free environment, permitting teachers to concentrate on educating the students. On the other hand, it can also be argued that the laws only hurt the minorities and handicapped personnel, while continuing to not solve the cause of the problem.
