“Shaped by Writing, The Undergraduate Experience,” is about a study conducted by the “Harvard Study of Undergraduate Writing”. To elaborate, Harvard Study followed 400 students from their class of 2001, up until they graduated. Upon graduation, a certain few were asked about their undergraduate experience. All of the students described their undergraduate experience as a well learned trait, so to speak. One student says, “I couldn’t imagine college without writing now.” They expressed immense change not only in their writing but also in their lives. How could they possibly have gone through such a life changing experience through literature? Just think about the immense change that would have to occur to an individual in order for their life to be touched by a required college literature class. The importance of literature becomes narrowed by real life application. Densely learned college literature will in many cases not be used in most careers. There is also narrowed reproduction of these skills being utilized in everyday conversation as well as critical thinking. Let 's get real, critical thinking may be applied but it 's never emphasized in a four-page essay during real life scenarios. The belief that college literature can be life changing is merely a non-logical conclusion. It may change the way you write but it will not change who you are physically, how you apply the skill in a workforce environment and when you apply the skill to everyday life.
