Once the monster and Frankenstein first met the monster began to tell his story of the cottagers. He went into detail about the past events and every move that the cottagers made. He talked about how he began to learn about them and their personalities and relations. He tells what he saw during his time of watching and his plan to meet them. The whole story itself was a flashback. While Victor was ill practically on his deathbed on the boat, he was telling his story to Walton. Victor was going into his history to pass on his story.
IRONY is defined as an incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs.
Irony occurs at the beginning of the book when Victor spent years devoted and obsessed over a creation he ends up abhorring. Victor said "the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart”. Victor put his creation before his own life and health to create another life that's ends up not being worth it. The Being was created to help humanity, but instead it ended up directly killing the people that Victor loves. Victor wanted to use science to create life, not create a life that ruins
