Soldiers contributed to the war by fighting and sticking up for what they believe in. When soldiers were drafted into the war, they had to leave behind family and loved ones. Harsh weather conditions affected soldiers in many ways. Due to freezing temperatures, some soldiers died of hypothermia. If soldiers returned home, they were usually injured. Sometimes a soldier would return home missing a limb.
Medical Staff were very involved in the Civil War. I believe they were affected the most. Most surgeons learned on the job. They were more interested in speed, than cleanliness. When a doctor was finished with surgery, there would be blood splattered all over their clothes. This was due to all the amputating. The opposite sides would try to starve people to death by preventing them from growing crops. This motivated women to try and do everything they could for their side to win. They knitted socks, made clothing and quilts, and even donated their possessions, or sold them and donated the money made. Women also dressed up like men and fought for their side. Many women were considered heroes for the bravery and dedication they achieved.
The Civil war affected everyone of that time. Every move made during the Civil War impacted individuals everywhere. The consequences of the Civil War have helped our country to grow and prosper, trying to avoid war from happening again.
