When one thinks of a place to call “home,” they often consider the usual options: houses, apartments, and trailers. Very rarely does the mind come up with any other alternatives. However, there is another form of housing that people may not have heard of called “subsidized housing.” This form of housing is government funded for people who cannot afford a place to live even with their source of income. People are eligible for this living situation only if they find themselves spending more than 30% of their monthly salary just on rent alone (US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, 2015).
There are several types of living styles associated with this kind of housing including one bedroom apartments, single rooms, or a townhouse setup. They are generally small, with a living room, kitchen, and bathroom. One building can have as many as 90 units with people living in them (US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, 2001). Most wouldn’t find this living situation ideal because of the amount of people in the building as well as the size of the house provided. Some just don’t have any other options. Because many of these sorts of housing are government funded and run, some argue that residents should not be able to drink or smoke in their home. I personally believe that one should be able to, and allow their guests to do so as well . It goes without saying that not all drug users are bad people.
