During the research it was noted that this type of withdrawal also impacted fulltime employees. Often tardiness and absenteeism affect productivity. Since employees may be rated on this, it also has an effect on performance reviews, which if those are negative it can lead to turnover. Another thing they found and compared is the difference in the withdrawals for part time vs. full time employees. They believe that the effects may be different with the full time employee because they are able to spend more time with supervisors and build a deeper, more meaningful relationship with supervisors that is not based on similarities. The can also be called Silent or Traditionalist. Their core values are respect for authority, they conform and they are disciplined. The family they are used to is the traditional nuclear family. They view education as “a dream”. Communication to them is rotary phones, one-on-one and writing memos. When dealing with money they put it away or pay cash. They are hard workers, respect authority and adhere to rules. Work is an obligation to them. They do not require feedback; a job well done is satisfactory to them. Baby Boomers were born between 1946-1964. Their core values are optimism and involvement. The family unit they identify with is disintegrating. Education in their eyes is a ‘birth right”. Communication to them is touch-tone phones or “call me anytime”. When dealing with money they buy now and pay later. They are workaholics, very efficient and question authority. Work is an exciting adventure to them and money and recognition is the feedback they …show more content…
Their core values are realism, confidence, extreme fun and social. The family unit they identify with is merged families. Education in their eyes is ‘an incredible experience’. Communication to them is Internet, picture phones and e-mail. When dealing with money they earn to spend. They are multi-taskers, very tenacious and entrepreneurial. Work is a means to an end and provides fulfillment. They feel they should get things at the push of a button. As you can see with all of the descriptions of the generations above, their different backgrounds require supervisors and managers to respond, react and mange in very different ways to each generation. The diversity of having all generations in the workplace can also be a great thing because it adds diversity to the business.
