Descriptive Essay Place

A home is a haven from the rest of the world. It is where we go the most often to relax and recharge before we need to head out again to continue fighting our battles. It is the place where friends and family come to live and visit, where memories are made. The place itself represents a little piece of ourselves, how it is created reflects on who we are. There are three things that describe a place: the location, the design of the building, and the decor. The location is important because it makes up the landscape for the house and is the first detail towards the atmosphere of the home. It does not matter what city, state, or country I live in, as I do not know exactly where my life will lead. However, I have always dreamed of living in …show more content…
It is not just what it appears on the outside, but it is fun and unexpected. Inside, an ash wood staircase winds boldly up to the second floor, twisting twice, set a few yards back from the front door. The railings are held up by slender black spindles, loosely spiraled, and the walls and floors are covered in a light colored wood matching that of the stairs. Grazing the back of the staircase is a wall which divides the front floor from the left to the right, making the front rooms open and spacious. On the left wall is the fireplace, and windows draw in the light which sparkles off the wood. Two doors open to the left and right of the staircase, the one on the left to the kitchen, and the other to the dining room. At the top of the stairs is the entrance to the master bedroom, which is large and spacious with a skylight window in the center of the room, perfect for late night stargazing or watching the snow fall on winter nights. To the right corner of the room is a sliding door opening to the balcony. In between the master bedroom and the two smaller ones across the hall is a bathroom. Back downstairs, the stairway connecting the main level to the basement is again winding, on one half, stairs, and the other a slide. At the bottom of the staircase is a laundry room, and on the other side, seperated by a wall, is a large bathroom, including a bathtub surrounded by grey tiles, which cover the basement floor as well. …show more content…
To live somewhere off in the countryside would be lovely. To have a perfectly built house fit exactly to what I have imagined would be amazing. To have the ability and supplies to decorate it the way I like and to match my interests would be so fun. Really, though, what I want someday is not just a house, but a home. My dream home is not made up of living in the ideal location, building the most wanted house, or even how it is decorated. The thing that makes me feel the most is home is being where I feel the most alive, and that is doing something or being with those that I love. If I have those, then I will be happy wherever I am, even if it were a dirt floor in the middle of nowhere. While I am still waiting for the future to play out, though...well, a girl can

When you hear the word home, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it the place where you were raised, or where you’re currently residing? Do you think of something more emotional such as a person that you are most comfortable with, perhaps even yourself? Different people have different definitions of the word home. Growing up in a family oriented community was really great as it allowed me to make many friends and get to grow up with a majority of them throughout my entire public school experience. Being able to go outside on any given summer day and play with all my neighbors, gives a sense of belonging. Being in a new place allows for a lot of exploring to occur, leading you to learn new things you never would not have known unless you went away from your house. In the essay “Why Place Matters” Wilfred McClay and Ted McAllister argue that the loss of one's connection to a physical place results in the loss of individuality and one's public virtues. They fear that the importance of “place” seems to be fading and is now currently being replaced with a world that is deemed ‘placeless’ and thrives only on technology. They claim that place is an essential part for one to have a set of memories that build up a self identity. This self identity allows for a sense of responsibility that one has for their own community. They believe one cannot be apart of society without being a part of a place within that society.…

Everyone in the world most likely has a different meaning and understanding of the frequently used word, “home”. There is so many ways to define home. Per Dictionary.com, home is defined as, “a house, apartment, or other shelter that is the usual residence of a person, family, or household” or “the place or region where something is native or most common.” Except, these definitions are very general and do not really explain the true meaning of a home. As we see in The Glass Castle Jeannette and the Walls family mainly describe home as a place where they can stay for some time before having to leave due to bills or something along the lines.…
