HIV/AIDS in South Africa South Africa’s HIV/AIDS percentage raised to 18 percent of the population. AIDS in South Africa is more prevalent than anywhere else in the world. The high percentage of HIV/AIDS has several different causes including: poor hygiene, poor medical practices, and sex trafficking. These infections are not only a problem for adults, but children have been having to raise themselves because their parents are not alive anymore. South Africa needs to improve the health care there, improve the sanitation of water, help educate young adults on the topic, and put an end to sex trafficking. Many factors lead to the effect of HIV and AIDS. For example, poor medical care to patients can result in one of these infections. Poor medical care and practices can most definitely lead to an infection. If a doctor or caregiver does not wear gloves when handling blood, they can catch diseases and infections from the contaminated blood. HIV can also be transferred from person to person if a medical provider reuses a syringe or a needle used on another patient. Sex trafficking is another world known issue that is causing problems in South Africa. Jacob Zuma, South Africa’s president, released the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Bill into law on the 29th of July, 2013.
