The controversial topic of High-Stakes Assessments and Standardized Assessments has been a head scratcher for educators over the years. Does this help my students gain new information? Is there a purpose? Is there another way to see if students understand the concepts that they have learned? All these questions have to deal with High-Stakes assessments and Standardized assessment. According to “Education Reform”, standardized assessments require students to answer the same questions, or a selection of question from common bank of questions, while high-stakes assessments deals with a test used to make important decisions about students, educators, school, or districts (basically if you don’t score high enough on the test, you will get “punishments” such as …show more content…
What I also understand is that there are many rough areas that need to be addressed in both assessments. In my opinion, I think testing students is a good idea. Doing test preparations and studying for a test helps student gain new information and to retain the information. What I don’t agree with about these assessments it is easy to cheat the system. Agreeing with an article I read “What's Wrong with Standardized Tests?” states that test results increase cheating to boost scores without improving educational quality. Teachers do this by arranging low-scoring students to be absent on the test day. I understand why many educators do this because their job is on the line and they aren’t able to help the low-scoring students because the test is too bias. Obviously this isn’t helping to expand student’s minds. I believe that we need to test our students but the test should be made by the teachers because the teacher knows each students strength and weakness way better than people from the government. Education is supposed to be a fun learning process and in my opinion these assessments have sucked the fun right
