Picture a stressed kid doing a long test. Could standardized tests be changed so kids wouldn’t be nervous? What do you think? This brings me to what I will be talking about today, standardized tests. Some people believe that we should change the way kids take these tests, which others believe tests are fine the way they are and aren’t worth the hassle. I think that people need to change the way we have students take tests. This is because standardized tests are ineffective, they haven’t improved achievement, and they cause severe stress.

These tests have not improved achievement. The United States dropped from 18th in the world to 31st when No Child Left Behind passed in 2002. Science had a similar decline, and reading didn’t have much of a difference. This means that standardized tests haven’t helped students. Standardized tests can cause severe stress to many students. I can relate to this because I get nervous when I am about to take a big and important test. I think that I would have done better with a shorter test that I wouldn’t be so nervous about. Standardized tests can make kids so nervous that they may vomit or cry, making these kids do bad as well. That is why I think that standardized tests are causes of severe stress.
Other people may say that most parents approve of standardized tests. This may be true, but most does not mean that every parent thinks that. Some parents may notice how much stress that standardized testing puts on their children or other children, therefor making them dislike the test. So, even though some parents may approve, not all do.
This essay has been about how we should change the way students take tests. People should do this because they aren’t effective, they have not improved achievement, and they cause stress for children and teens. I hope that one day these problems will have nothing to do with standardized tests, and I believe that if you and other people think we should change the way students take standardized tests, then it could possibly
