Family Genogram Case Study

Great Essays
In my family genogram, I noticed a trend of heart problems with increasing age in both males and females of my family. My grandmother and grandfather on my mother’s side of the family died of cancer (as did their parents before them). Other than my grandparents, and one of my uncles, the rest of my family has been cancer free on both sides of my family. Members on both my father’s side and my mother’s side of the family suffer from being overweight. My brother, at a young age, suffered from being overweight, which lead to an eating disorder that he battles to this day. One of my aunts and one of my uncles suffer from a mental disorder (hoarding and schizophrenia) on my mother’s side. My father’s side of the family is very healthy mentally, but my grandmother went through a severe depression when my biological grandfather passed away. Since marrying my step-grandpa, she has been progressing through it. …show more content…
Saint Ben’s has plenty of exercise equipment available for working out indoors. For instance, they have treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, and weights. Occasionally, someone will lead workout classes for anyone to attend. They also have a lot of options to work out outdoors. For example, you can rent rollerblades and bicycles from the rec desk. That comes with helmets and pads if you so choose. Another resource that is at my disposal is my friends. I can use them to try and motivate me the best that I can, and maybe I can motivate them along the way. One of the resources that I still need is motivation. I am far more motivated to do my homework than I am to start my fitness project. I need to bring some of that motivation from homework and put that into my own physical health. Another resource that I need to get is more time. This will come easier with more time management skills. Also, the further along into the semester, the easier it should be to manage my

Family Assessment of Shelby Eatenton Latcherie Family does not have a universal definition, and over the years the definition has changed from a traditional mother, father, and children to several variations. Examples of these are parents that are unmarried, are of the same sex and those that do not live in the same household but do what is called co-parenting. The definition of family according to Kaakinen, Coehlo, Steele, Tabacco, & Hanson (2015) is "Family refers to two or more individuals who depend on one another for emotional, physical, and economic support. The members of the family are self defined" (p. 5). The movie, Steel Magnolias, is based on a true story but names, details and events have been changed.…

The three targeted areas are urgently needed by the family system from the assessment are a stable home, an interaction between siblings, and addressing the major ongoing problem within the family. For a stable home, in the movie scene, it appears how unstable the Grapes family home is, the house is damaged, and they did not have enough money to rebuild it or fix the parts that were falling apart. The second target area is the interaction between siblings, they did not express their feelings towards each other or shared feelings among each other and instead kept it to themselves and left it hanging. It kind of goes with my third point which is addressing the major ongoing problem within the family. No one ever talked about the struggles the family was facing.…

When I formed and assessed Hispanic family genogram, it discovered that J.B.’s father had heart disease and died of the heart attack at age 63. Furthermore, when determining D.B.’s family history, it shows that heart disease is the most common health issue.…

Family Theory Assessments and Application of Family Interventions According to the Family Theory, each part of a system is interrelated, dependent on each other, and affects one another (Codina Leik, 2014). Therefore, if one part of the system is damaged or dysfunctional, such as one member of a family, the rest of the system or family is also affected (Codina Leik, 2014). It is extremely important to incorporate this theory into assessments and family interventions in primary care. Both of my preceptors incorporated this system into their assessments and care.…

After concluding the genogram, it dawned on me that my family didn’t necessarily have many issues regarding emotional relationships. I think most of it has to deal with the recent transition of a laid-back household to a religious household where my parents are very much involved with the church alongside my younger siblings. With that being said I did notice that my paternal family had a higher chance of dying young whereas my maternal family had a much longer lifespan. I also took into consideration that the marriages that occurred where between individuals that where only a couple of years apart from one another. I can’t claim any educational patterns that have occurred within the household since I’ve been the only one who’s attended college.…
