Healthcare Administration: A Personal Statement

Because of my early exposure to health implications faced by a family member I was naturally drawn to the medical field. During my early years of childhood my Mother was diagnosed with lupus, which is a disease where your immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. As I got older my Mothers sickness began to worsen and I started going to countless doctor’s appointments and learned more about insurance and the healthcare field. This is when my passion for healthcare started to form. Being able to maximize efficiencies and minimize costs through planning, directing and supervising the delivery of healthcare, would be a tremendous blessing. With my mother being sick, I have had experience with the healthcare system, and this has motivated me to want to take part in the decisions on how we as a society make decisions on the quality of care of all citizens. However, I have come across a few stones in the road, and I have overcome those obstacles by working hard and and using the knowledge I have gained from the past and use it toward the knowledge I will learn in the future. One of the barriers in the road are standardized tests, I have never been able to do extremely well on these kinds of tests and believe they do not accurately portray my abilities to succeed. I am dedicated to my studies and work, and always strive to succeed at any given task. By balancing school, work, my personal life and various extracurricular activities at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, I have gained true leadership skills, time management, and the ability to multi-task.
