“Explain, with examples, what it means to say that health and illness are socially constructed”

Health and social construction
The statement of Health is socially constructed, because it is connected to the belief’s which we associate about “who is heathy”? we can define health in negative ways as “the absence of disease ” but The modern and positive definition of health was adopted by WHO “during a Preamble to the Constitution of the World Health Organization as adopted by the International Health Conference, New York, 19-22 June, 1946; signed on 22 July 1946 by the representatives of 61 States (Official Records of the World Health Organization, no. 2, p. 100) and entered into force on 7 April 1948”. “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. According to WHO (2016) says “The Definition has not been amended since 1948”.
However, I have concluded there is not an agreed definition of health because not everyone can define health in the positive approach as WHO.
Health’s definition is shaped or influenced by the people around us (official or lay), our family, schools, the work environment and the social scene which we belong too. Gender, social class, age, culture, ethnic, religion, mass media and the medical worlds view can also influence How we think about health.
