Ethics, the moral understanding that someone has a behavior towards. Utilitarian is the ethics of something that is right or wrong that is than assessed for a consequence. Bentham and Mill both have a different but similar opinion on utilitarianism. They both have the notion that utilitarianism is about the mind and body or the pain and pleasure we mankind endure.
Bentham believes that mankind governs around two sovereigns’ pain and pleasure. He says that we think about it, talk about it, and also the way we do things. Say for example it is summer break and every day you do the same thing of high or low pleasures. Well it was fun the first day doing those activities but you suddenly are extremely bored with it. If you mixed up the low and high pleasure I believe there should be some sort of happiness. I can see why he thinks the way he does because music and art give you more of a stimulus reaction then say a pie or running down the street. This may be different for many people but when I look at art it has this presence of symbolism or that some person created this and is now famous for it. As well as listening to music and I mean Opera, Broadway musical, and/or symphonies. I believe that Bentham has a stronger theory and not because this was the starting point of the theory but because it makes a whole of sense. The reason it makes sense is because while I know we have so many different emotions other than pain or pleasure but both of them coexist with each other. You have pain which can turn into pleasure or stay at pain. You can have pleasure that turns into pain or stays at pleasure. Take for example having a child, yes it is painful but once you are holding your child you feel pleasure. Another example would be people that have their bodies pierced and tattooed. They endure pain until the procedure is done and then they feel pleasure because it came out nice (hopefully) and it is over with. It goes the same for people who have plastic surgery. They might not feel the pain of the surgery but they sure have pleasure that it is done and it looks
