The Importance Of Guide Dogs For The Blind

Don Lugo High School students have been raising and training guide dogs for their blind companions since 2014. At present, there are 19 dogs on deck to aid their blind human friends. Don Lugo High School principal Kimberly Cabrera explained that these dogs are with them on a daily basis as they go to school, public places, and school. At present, the students are set to raise 10 dogs.

A daughter's inspiration to fuel the mother's mission

Principal Cabrera recalled that the school's program commenced following her experience, which her daughter Brianna also shared, with the Guide Dogs for the Blind many years ago. These canine varieties must exercise calm in the face of chaos and execute intellect in discerning looming danger. Size is also another trait that will distinguish guide dogs as they need to be big enough to lead yet small enough to be enjoyed by their owners. The site recommended 14 dog breeds that can become natural guide dogs. First on the list is the Labrador retriever. The breed gained its popularity as guide dogs through their intellect and loyalty as they are easy to teach and have fewer health concerns. They can be both energetic and calm, provided that they receive the proper training. Like the labs, German Shepherds are also revered for their intellect and energy, yet they also get plus points for their devotion and flexibility. Golden Retrievers craft their reputation for being well-known and friendly canine breeds, while boxers can also serve as ideal guide dogs thanks to their traits of loyalty, patience, and devotion. They may be the lesser known breed of guide dogs, yet Border Collies possess high levels of intelligence, hard work, and awareness, qualities that make the breed an ideal guide dog for some owners. Although the public may perceive these breeds as a pet, Poodles, Doberman Pinschers, and Rottweilers are deemed as effective guide dogs, thanks to their respective traits. Poodles are known for their fast learning abilities, while Doberman Pinschers exercise their devotion to work and challenges. Rottweilers, meanwhile, are recognized for their obedience, calm, good-natured behavior, and loyalty.
