Graduation Speech : Teaching And Practicing The Writing Process

At the beginning of this semester I did not like the subject of composition. It is not my strength and I do not like to read or write. My expectations about compositions was very unaware. The first semester has been overwhelming, especially with being out of school for several years. I did not think that I was going to be able to compose lengthy essays. I feel like I accomplished so much this year and my writing ability has grown so much, because of the learning information that was given each week and the essays that was composed had a great deal for my new way to compose essays. Since the beginning of the semester, I have been learning and practicing the writing process. At the start of school I only knew the basics of writing an essay due to many years of middle school and high school. From the start as a students being taught how to write an opening statement, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which still applies to most of my thought process. With the reading materials from this semester, I have a better understanding of styles, audience and research. This course has helped me understand the writing process and how important research is for any essay. Research gives a better and clear picture to support the information for the audience. The audience is looking for details about the subject being written from the author, not their opinions. In my core classes I will have to write complete sentences and this class is the foundation to my other classes. As…
