Ferry Farm was the principal area where he grew up at. There is archeological evidence that it had once been burned, and repaired. When George was 11, his father, Augustine Washington, died. He left a portion of the land to each of his sons. He left the farm and ten slaves to George, which he would later inherit when he is 21 years old. He actually never cut down any cherry tree, which was probably a tall tale to represent being honest. Later on in his life, when he was 15, he began surveying.
