How Is George Washington Successful

George Washington, our first president, had much to do in order to make the United States a successful nation. Before he became president, he was a surveyor in his late teen years. Not long after, he joined the military service. As a soldier during the French and Indian War, he served as a commander to the Virginia Troops. He also claimed himself to be a successful tobacco planter in his home land. Washington proved that he was a much better general than he was just a military man. He was not the biggest genius on the battlefield. His strength was mainly keeping the colonial army in control during the Revolutionary War. Washington’s troops were not well fed, taken care of, or trained. Even though this was the case, Washington was able to get his troops to continue in the battle. He also felt the need for a new, strong government. Washington wanted the representatives from Maryland and Virginia to meet to discuss hospitality of Mount Vernon. Washington did not take part in the discussions. On May 28, 1785, the group came to an agreement. They decided to make the navigational rights on the Potomac and Pocomoke Rivers and the Chesapeake Bay. The Mount Vernon Compact covered not only the navigation rights but also issues such as toll duties and debt collection.
After all of this had happened, Washington gave up being the commander and returned to Mount Vernon. He did this because he wanted to return to his family and become a more family generated person. In 1787, the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia was held. He was asked to help make a draft for the new constitution. His leadership at the meeting strongly impressed the delegates. They knew that he would be a great first president to start our
