One of the most dangerous and least understood experiments with human health has been put in motion without the world community’s approval. Genetically modified organisms, also known as “Proposition 37,” have contaminated the food supply. A genetically modified organism was the result of a laboratory process where deoxyribonucleic acid, also known as DNA, was taken from one species, which could be from a plant or an animal, and inserted into another in an effort to take on a particular characteristic or trait. The results have no health benefits, only financial benefits to the companies that produce them. The genetically modified organisms of animals or plants today have hurt the environment and have caused health problems in the nation, and even around the world. A promise which made supposedly better food. This new technology had invaded farmlands, grocery stores and most importantly the family kitchen. Because a significant portion of consumers want relevant information about the content of their foods, all foods should contain labeling regarding their content of genetically modified organisms. “Currently, up to 92% of U.S. corn is genetically engineered (GE), as are 94% of soybeans and 94% of cotton (cottonseed oil is often used in food products). It has been estimated that upwards of 75% of processed foods on supermarket shelves – from soda to soup, crackers to condiments – contain genetically engineered ingredients.” This includes cereal, bread, alfalfa,…
