We have to be careful of what we do with GMO’s. In the USA plant GMO’s have been allowed. In Europe GMO’s are restricted, for example certain GMO’s have been allowed but have to be labelled. One thing for certain is that GMO’s are the future and they have the capability to boost many things, for example the economy. If these crops are becoming more withstandable and better value, in the long run it will help the economy as there will be less wastage and ruined crops. Right now GMO’s cost a lot to produce safely. Firstly they have to be tested on and created through vigorous research. Those processes cost a lot of money so these seeds will be considerably more expensive than regular seeds. With where we are at the moment with GMO’s, it may not benefit the economy because the costs are high, and right now the benefits aren’t equally as high. In the future when GMO’s get more and more popular a problem might occur with small farmers and LIC’s because they won’t have the resources or money to afford to plant GMOs ahead of regular seeds. This could increase the gap even further between rich and poor. Ideally you would hope that GMO’s would help the poorer countries and small farmers, affected by ruined crops, who need the money more than the large TNCs or powerful
