Gender's Role In The Hiring Process

Gender doesn’t always play a role in the hiring process. Based on Heilman’s revised model, attractive individuals are perceived as more socially competent than unattractive ones, regardless of gender (Eagly, Ashmore, Makhijani, & Longo, 1991; Jackson et al., 1995; Zuckerman, Miyake, & Elkin, 1995). Just because someone is perceived to be socially competent, doesn’t mean they actually are. This Is where attractive people have the advantage again over less attractive people. Being socially competent is key in employment. It allows people to socialize better which is important with jobs that require customer service.
