Gender inequity is a challenge at every level. As modern India races forward and adopts global gender norms, the majority of the country is still firmly rooted in patriarchy. Women have to take permission from their husbands and a lot of people approach the village head for permission first. Of course a husband who beats his wife won’t allow her to disclose this to public. She once took a woman hardly hurt by husband to hospital, and the woman told the doctor her wounds were caused by “an accident by bullock”. The doctor could obviously tell that a bullock won’t hurt a person in that way, but he didn't question closely. Later the doctor told Aleya Akhtara, he saw many women that were not willing to tell the truth, because if they did so, the public may not be helpful, moreover, they may face more maltreat when they go back
