Gender structure affects structures at work by cultural beliefs that classify on what job positions should be held based on biological sex. Therefore, gender inequality affects people in the workforce because of the gender wage gap in institutions. For example, jobs are sex segregated based on gender roles and status. According to Cecilia Ridgeway (2011), suggest that there are gender biases in the working system because workers are identified by status and skills. Also, men and women earn different wages because of gender. Even if women have the same positions, males are looked at as authority .Employers who have the same qualifications as males are not hired based on gender bias. However, the male would always be hired because he is identified as an authority because he is considered to be competitive and dominant. Ridgeway(2011) states that “Not only the existing sex composition of the job, but also the stereotypical gendered nature of the work or the status of the establishment that the job incumbent is expected to connote can implicitly activate gender beliefs and the color of an image of the preferred worker”( 101). Moreover, Society categorizes women to be incapable of managing a male position in the workforce because of the lack of dominance.
