Have you ever wondered why art stood out to you? Why you preferred one piece of art over a different piece of art? Do you know what makes a good piece of art stand out? Before enrolling into Full Sail for my Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design I would not have been able to adequately answer any of these questions. My time at Full Sail has surely been productive and has been an enormous eye opener on how to read into art and what to look for to define each piece of art effectively. I have choses 3 photos from Google art gallery to display what I have learned. https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/asset-viewer/symphony/OgE4msrROpo7_g?projectId=art-project

My first piece of art happens to be a very unique piece. It is called “Symphony”

The artist Martin Van Meytens created this painting as oil on canvas in 1763. It is called the “Wedding Supper” as it depicts the celebration of wedding activities in the 18th century. The dimensions are w300 x h44cm which is a rather small painting but the detail makes up for the size. The artist used great proportion skills in this piece. It looks as if you are standing above everyone on a balcony. The shadows on the backs of the people on the bottom show great lighting and implies that you are actually looking at this scene from a distance. The angle at which you are looking at this piece implies that you are looking at it from above. I love how Meytens incorporated repetition of the windows and chandeliers. I also think what makes this piece stand out is the fact that the top half is symmetrical while the bottom half is unsymmetrical. This really draws me in because the detail in the top half is so perfect while the unsymmetrical portion is still almost symmetrical but is made different by the crowd of different people in different poses. The split complimentary colorings really make this piece stand out as well. You have the yellowish colors on the ceiling and the white on the table while the reds of the people and other miscellaneous things throughout the picture that contrast nicely. If you look closely you can see the blue/green colors on some of the people. This effect …show more content…
Moore created this painting as part of a memorial which contains 17 other paintings that display the aftermath of the Holocaust. Moore was known to be the official war artist of the 20th century and because of his wonderful talent we now have a little bit of history first hand from looking at these pieces of art. Although, this may come across as a horrific photo showing the damaging effects of the war I also see that it looks like this painting may have been painted after a traumatic even and everyone else is walking away. The man and the women stand their torn and tattered but they are survivors none the less which can be portrayed as a positive aspect. However, I also can look at this photo and see people scattered trying to find a way out yet the man and the women stand there as a sign of retreat as if they no longer have something/someone to live for. Either way, this painting shows a part of history and can be perceived in a few different ways. The artist showed great proportion here by displaying the main figures up front and large while the people get smaller the farther back they are. This gives the man and women up front and center attention. I enjoyed seeing that the artist portrayed movement in this painting as well. You see people in the middle of moving and your eyes almost finish their movements as you are

One of my phrases has to be a picture is worth thousand words. Attending the De Young Museum was phenomenal experience because of the artwork that they showcased ranging from the South America all the way to Africa which shows how diverse they were. However, two images that caught my attention was the Our Lady, Refuge of Sinners and the Savages of the Pacific Ocean. They both contained similarities when it came to the time period known as the neo-classicism while also differences when it comes to the meaning behind the images, and the techniques that the artists used. Even though there were more differences than similarities among the images they both were unique in their own ways.…

A few years before mid-twentieth century marked one of the world’s greatest historical wars; this war consisted of one major aspect that is most commonly known as the holocaust. The objective of this scene was to weed out all the “racially defective” individuals so that the target to purify the human race could be succeeded. After this gruesome event, blossomed a world of reactions, whether considered respectful or not, one of these renowned reactions is the artwork of David Olère. One particular piece, identified as Gassing, is to be examined as a reputable reaction to the holocaust due to the fact that the picture correctly depicts the strenuous physical, as well as psychological state, of a majority of victims of this war.…

A person’s identity is something that is very personal and is hard to describe and express to other people. Some people prefer to be identified by their physical characteristics, whereas others would rather be identified by their personality and how they are as a person. Knowing the difference between the two is one of the hardest things to do when you first meet someone. The same thing applies to art when trying to capture the identity of the artist. One’s identity can be defined by their experiences, ethnicity, religion, values, childhood, family background, among many other factors that make up a person’s identity.…

At first, the painting just portrays a war in general: the cruelty of the intruders, sufferings of the powerless, ruined building, and fire. But, the painting also conveys hopelessness. Hope is nowhere seen in the victim`s faces. They have no means of fighting back as depicted by their nakedness. It seems like they already give up their lives.…

This painting reflects the economic and social changes of the late medieval period in Europe by displaying the social side by people interacting with each other. Also the people seem to be enjoying themselves and having a good time conversing with the other people in the room without the hassle of arguing over little things. It shows the economic changes by displaying that business can be discussed with no arguing and also how business can be handled efficiently with as minimal problems as possible and the economy consists of less battling than before. The Beauty In Chaos Art has a strong correlation to beauty. Photography, film, paintings, and drawings. Beauty is used often by many people, however, the term beauty is much more profound than the way it's being commonly used. Take for example the last time beauty was so profound it left a memorable mark. The photograph, Bare Back, San Francisco by John Gutmann and the art piece, The Circus by George Bellows capture beauty in two different styles and the narrative, The Ring of Time by E.B White serves as a guide that links them together through similarities and differences.…

To travel and be a lover of the arts may seem like a wrong career choice to some, but to me that is all my heart, soul, and mind desires. I became acquainted with this love when I attended a school that received a large amount of foreigners each year. While interacting with these students, I became curious about their origins. Although previously hearing about other lands outside of the United States of America, it never interested me to learn the customs, people, or territories of those countries. While listening to my peers’ descriptions of their countries, awe started to rise within me; I wanted to explore, so badly, the majestic locations earth had to offer.…

I am grateful that my exposure to art came at an early age. I used to sit in my father’s kitchen, mirroring his movements as he sketched scenes from life in Mississippi. My sister and I would think of titles for his paintings as they dried on the living room floor. My initial curiosity for his work eventually developed into a genuine desire to explore the arts further. After finding my own path through art history, honing my artistic skills, and expanding my knowledge of different cultures, I have noticed the ways in which these topics intersect with one another.…

The elements of design are visual components that artist use to make their artwork. There are six primary elements of design and they include line, shape, mass/volume, perspective, texture and color. We use these elements of design to add more depth to our analysis of artwork. All of these elements can be seen in the painting After the Bath, Woman drying herself by Edgar Degas. The main lines in this piece are the vertical and diagonal lines where the floor and wall meet in the background.…

Art is everywhere. It’s on your phone that you look at first thing in the morning, the small, square, vivid apps. It’s on the billboards you drive by on your way to class or work, advertising the newest food at your local McDonald 's with the flashy yellow double arch drawing your attention. It is even on this piece of paper, the deep black letters contrasting against the bright white of the paper. To some, art means nothing.…
