The advances in the military medical services has changed with caring for the troops who were not able to do the task. The Navy Medical department was followed for it former self. There were 83 navy hospitals during WW2, by the 1950’s they decreased to 26. Bed capacity had gone down from 138,000 beds to just about 23,000. Medical personals dramatically decreased from 170,000 at the end of 1945 to 21,000 in the summer of 1950. As of the huge critical shortage of physicians that the congress passed public law 779, known as the doctor draft law in 1950. They had provided the drafting of medical physicians. After WW2 they were all sent back because they were no longer needed. Now they were required to and many of these medical physicians were recalled to active duty. Few of the men drafted were experienced in combat medicine. The ones with the least training and background ended up going to korea. No matter what kind of doctor you were, they put you right into becoming surgeons…
