Five Food Innovations

There are many food technologies that are used to make foods a lot safer. Five food innovations used to make food safer are canning, freezing, drying, pasteurization, and irradiation. There are many methods, but these are five of some of the most common and known methods.
Canning is a simple process where you preserve food by heating or cooking foods at a high temperature in a sealed and/or can or jar destroying any organisms that would cause them to spoil. Canning can also reduce the pesticide residue left behind during the washing process. Some nutrients may also be lost in the cooking and heating portion of the canning process. During the heating portion of the process air is driven out of the jar or container causing it to make a vacuum tight seal that prevents any contaminating microorganisms from getting inside the container. Irradiation is similar to the same way that sunlight might pass through a window or over a transparent or opaque surface. Irradiation is often referred to as cold pasteurization because it uses no heat what so ever to destroy the disease causing bacteria and other harmful organisms. An upside to irradiation is that it extends the freshness of food by slowing down the enzymes and preventing it from ripening as fast. Irradiation also helps keep the food safer and helps the food retain its quality longer.
In conclusion, while these are only some ways to keep food safe they are some of the best innovated ways to preserve, obtain quality, and protect the food from going bad or spoiling. The five food innovations that are used most often are canning, freezing, drying, pasteurization, and irradiation, there are many other ways to protect and keep your food safe, but these are some of the best
