Juries are a key component of the justice system and they exist as the ultimate deciding factor in terms of defining the defendant as guilty or not guilty. In order to be on a jury and occupy one of the twelve spots, a jury consultant digs through the potential juror’s social media networks. Jury Consultants accumulate information about the jurors and check to see if the information they find is “favorable” or “unfavorable”. Jury Consultants have a job of Jury Profiling, which is the implementation of social science to help lawyers understand the underlying factors that jurors possess. Nowadays, juries are changing discretely to accommodate juror’s rights. Assumptions about race and other factors are being replaced with factual information about the person as an individual found on social media websites like Facebook and Twitter. On the opposite side of the spectrum, Extraversion is defined as a person’s ability to demonstrate outgoing traits socially. This subset of individuals is inclined to be happier and are recommended as suitable jurors. Openness is the admiration of alternate perspectives and the impulse to experience artistic pleasures. People who have a high openness perspective are good jurors because they think outside the box and are flexible with their emotions. Unlike high openness, low openness is a characteristic that isn’t wanted in a juror because it leads people to have difficulty with adapting to new ideas or feelings. Agreeableness is the likelihood of somebody being reliable and sympathetic towards others while Conscientiousness is the likelihood to plan ahead and be diligent. Individuals that have a high agreeableness perspective would be picked as a presentable juror because they have a strong positive view of relationships while low agreeableness tend to be more antagonistic. A person who has a high conscientiousness perspective demonstrates hard work and strong decision making skills while low conscientiousness is very lazy and are most likely to not be chosen as an appropriate juror.
