It is a parliamentary democracy, which means the people vote for who they want in charge. The leading difference in the Republic of Ireland and that of American politics is that Ireland as a whole leans more to the right on most issues, considering their strong ties to their Catholic faith. Most of the parties in the Republic of Ireland are conservative and lean right.
The main political parties in the Republic of Ireland are the Fianna Fail, Fine Gael, Labour and the Progressive Democrats. The most popular being the Fianna Fail, which is comparative to the United States’ Republican Party. Fianna Fail and the Fine Gael want and press for the unit of Ireland. Both of these two parties are very similar as they are both center right of the political process. Finding a difference among the two proves to be very difficult. Both of the main political parties of the Republic of Ireland want a unified Ireland. This proves difficult, as most of the people in Northern Ireland would prefer to stay a part of Great Britain. The Irish military’s name is the Defence Forces, which alludes to the fact that they are mostly defensive in nature. The military and the Irish people have had a firm stance that the country will remain militarily neutral in all conflicts around the world. For this reason, they are a tremendous value to the United Nations for peacekeeping missions. Currently the Republic of Ireland has approximately 500 of its military personnel deployed around the world in peacekeeping missions. The Defense Force is keeping the peace in Africa, Asia, Europe and in the Middle East. The Defense Force has four main areas. They are the Army, Air Corps, Navy and the Reserve.
