I was anticipating this assignment since the beginning of the year as I am enthusiastic about working with computers and new software. Prior to the workshop we had received emails from our personal tutors. They instructed us to transfer the provided data which could be found on Queens Online onto a memory pen. I read over the provided manual which contained step by step instructions of the workshop, which I found tremendously beneficial and reassuring.
The morning had commenced moderately nerve-wracking as the day before I unintentionally transferred the provided data onto a micro SD card, rather than a memory pen. This turned out to be relatively inconsequential. Since each person had the data on their memory pens, it was essentially a matter of requesting the person sitting next to me to transfer a copy of their data onto my memory pen.
In the beginning of the workshop numerous people appeared to be perplexed as to how NVivo functions. Conversely, any necessary assistance was obtainable from our personal tutors and Dr. Dirk Schubotz. I chose to search for ‘Northern Ireland conflict’ as this was relevant to the interviews. I obtained a description from John Wolffe’s report on Protestant and Catholic conflict. Afterwards, I retrieved three external and three internal types of sources. For the internal data I chose a map of Northern Ireland, and two different articles which specifically explains the conflict that has been occurring in Northern Ireland. One specifically concentrating on religion, ethnicity and colonialism.
