The information given through the field placement as well as interactions with the clients is helpful in helping other students in class but also in understanding the classroom content as well. For example, a client in the office is suffering from mental illness and is struggling to find stability in life, the skills acquired through field placement from working with professional social workers can be helpful to another student in class who is possibly working with the same type of client. Also, when faced with a situation in field placement and not sure how to address it, going back to the readings and classroom information can be helpful for the next time when a similar situation arises.
The only gaps I identify between the classroom content and the field placement that some of the social workers at the field placement is some of them get too emotionally invested in their client. From what is being taught in class and the readings that can prove to be an issue because the clients become dependent on their social worker and when the relationship has to end a conflict of interest may arise. Thus far, I haven’t seen any tensions between the material learned in class and what is being learned in the
