Field Placement Experience

As established in our first discussion post, my field placement with Community Shares is a macro focus placement and individuals or clients are not served at the agency location; thereby diminishing concerns of safety. With that said, as part of my experience with the field placement, I will travel with my supervisor to agencies that Community Shares supports and will have direct contact with various population groups in various types of settings. When I encounter off site visits my risk and concern for safety will increase. To minimize my risk when participating in off site visits, I will familiarize myself with the agency and location of the planned visit. The building have several unoccupied entrances and signs directing visitors to one main entrance. At the main entrance a security feature that either allows a punch code to disengage the locked doors for entrance into the building or an intercom system allowing the visitor to call their destination to be granted access into the building. My supervisor shared with me that there has been a past history of the building being broken into or finding uninvited guest in the building, which has been deterred since the security door system has been in place. Being located in the city and on a small piece of property, there is limited parking available for the building. The property does include a small parking lot, however it is small and if all occupants of the building are at the office the lot could be full. There is limited street parking. If I had to access street parking and the given the distance of the parking spot from the center location, I would need to be aware of my surroundings for safety.
