Fast Food: Four Big Names Lose Summary

In the four readings, each had something that had to deal something with culture. For example in “If You Are What You Eat, Then What Am I?” by Geeta Kothari, she explains the mixture of her culture and the American Culture, and how the types of food are perceived different. In the first essay, “Fast Food: Four Big Names Lose” by Consumer Reports, it is hard to see culture being talked about but the statistics are based on American fast food chains and how the culture perceive they types of food if they are good or bad. In the reading, “On Campus, It’s One Big Commercial” by Natasha Singer, culture is involved in the story by how advertisement affects the students of the college and the influence of the student ambassadors. In the final reading, “The Unexpected Lessons of Mexican Food” by Armando Montano, culture is seen through his experience in life with his dad and by himself. In the reading, they …show more content…
Unlike Kothari, Montano has a mixed culture background consisting of Mexican and American culture. The reading mainly focuses on his Mexican culture and shows little of the American culture. Montano experiences his Mexican culture early on with his father, especially when they go to Eagle Pass, Texas. The place is a heavily influenced with Mexican culture even though its located in the United States. That shows a meshing of the two cultures, which means that the two cultures influenced each other. “… I’ve felt the push and pull of growing up biracial in America.”(936) The quote shows that there is no clashing but the meshing of his parent’s cultures. Since he mainly speaks about his father in the reading, who is Mexican, his dad’s Mexican culture influenced him more than his mother’s side, which was American. So that shows that influence can change a person’s culture to more so imitate the influencers’
