Family Medical Leave Act (FLMA) was created in 1993 which is about 24 years ago today. Throughout the years FLMA continues to be very challenging for employers and employees. FLMA is proven to be very challenging for organizations to deal with, these challenges are due to the changes made by the Department of Labor (DOL). The Department of Labor has up dated new by-laws in order to provide clarification to employees and employers. The purpose of these new by-laws is to help employees understand the rights and to let employers know what their obligation are to their staff. There were new changes implemented in the January 16, 2009 by-law that would affect employers and confuse employees (Dwoskin, & Squire, 2010).
