Family And Medical Leave Act Family and Medical leave act, also known as "FMLA" is a law requiring employers to provide 12 weeks of unpaid leave for an employee, each year, for the birth or adoption of a child. This law also applies for taking care of family members, particularly a spouse, or parent. The law does not apply to siblings. FMLA also states that employeers must allow the returning employee to return to the same position, or a substantially similar position that the employee was in prior to their absence. Most women take advantage of medical leave while pregnant. A friend of mine whom works for Ross was very sick one day. Ross would not honor her medical leave request because she is part time employee. Some feel FMLA should be honored throughout the work-place regardless of employment status. Although this law has helped many, there are stipulations. Some examples include recovery from child birth, caring for a spouse, or children, just to name a few. For those who qualify, employees are allowed 30 days or more, depending on the status of the company and whether or not the employer falls within the legal requirement or 50 plus employees. However, not all employees qualify to be covered under FMLA. To qualify the employee must be full time, and have worked a minimum of 1300 hours within that year to be an eligible applicant. This law for men and women and it doesn't require to be a U.S citizen. Some times it's hard to do a medical leave if it's during a seasonal time. Family And Medical Leave Act is important because it gives sick patient's a break preventing them to spread their illness . This will help people to be more healthy because you will not have to meet with sick people in job places. People have to not be sick when they going work because if they work with food,the food can be unclean and that is not good for other people. It's very important for everyone to be healthy. FMLA has alot of benefits for people. This law has alot to do to everyone have a job. FMLA is a law from 1993 it's a very old law but we still have it until now.
