Within 24 hours of Facebook going live, 1200 students had already created an account. Due to Facebook’s rapid growth and popularity on campus, they decided to branch out to other Boston Colleges, the Ivy League, and finally all of the universities in the United States.
In 2006, Facebook opened their door to accept any person who had a working email instead of restricting their clientele to just the education sector. “As of December 2015, Facebook has 1.04 billion daily active users, 934 million mobile daily active users, and 1.44 billion mobile monthly active users”- (http://newsroom.fb.com/company-info/). The mission statement from Facebook is “Founded in 2004, Facebook’s mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. People use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, to discover what’s going on in the world, and to share and express what matters to them”-( http://newsroom.fb.com/company-info/) While this company was founded in the United States, 83.6% of the daily active users are from outside the United States and Canada”.
