I. Introduction
ATTENTION-GETTER: By a show of hands, how many of you are enrolled in a social media account? How many of you check it daily or maybe even hourly? Further, how many of you have been thinking of Facebook through all of these questions? So if you have a Facebook, you might recognize the scene of: scrolling through your newsfeed, seeing all the great things going on in your ‘friend’s’ lives. Such as “Drew just got an 100% on that test!”.. the same one you failed. Sound familiar? (AA)

BENEFITS TO THE AUDIENCE: Even if this particular instance hasn’t happened to you, maybe you are Drew and you didn’t realize how your post could effect others. You need to listen to this speech so that you can fully grasp the prevalence of social media, be informed about how it can affect you, and

II. Main Point 1 (full sentence): Facebook is arguably the most popular social media and networking site that has become increasingly widespread since its rough beginnings in 2004.
A. So for those of you who are unfamiliar with this website you may be asking, what is Facebook?
1. It is a website made by a man named Mark Zuckerberg that allows you to connect with friends, post blurbs, photos or videos, and also message individuals.
2. Why should you care? This website has grown tremendously since its beginning, (which I will explain more of in a moment) and this one resource has the opportunity to link people solely by technology, which has somewhat proven to be damaging to our mental health.
B. Now perhaps many have you have seen the movie released in 2010, The Social Network, and if not, it offers an entertaining backstory into how Facebook evolved. (EX)
1. According to the novel published in 2013, The Social Media Industries, the website began at Harvard University in 2004 and by the end of 2006 it had reached 12 million registered users.
