Exercise changes your body, your mind, and your outlook. Exercise has been proven multiple times to greatly impact our lives in a positive manner. Yet it still happens to be a very controversial topic, because many are blind to the benefits that physical activity provides us with. One can only act on the knowledge they have obtained, which is why it’s essential to understand how a lack of physical activity inhibits us from living a life of good health and longevity. We should reach for an increase in overall physical activity because it benefits us mentally, physically, and financially.

There are numerous studies that show the correlation between physical activity and one’s health, which is why physical activity is an essential lifestyle change (Curran 104). Psychological wellness is one of these. According to studies physical activity sharpens memory, by increasing the production of cells in hippocampus. Hippocampus is a part of the brain, which is associated with learning and memory of new skills (brainhq.com). As we age we often times began to decline, but physical activity can slow the rate, and even improve memory loss in the elderly. According to research from UCLA, “exercise increased growth factors in the brain- making it easier for the brain to grow new neuronal connections” (brainhq.com). A prime example of cell growth and new connections from physical activity could be the production of antidepressant chemicals known for boosting one’s mood.
