To begin, organized sports exposes participants to the necessary skills required to develop a strong mental state. Children improve their self-regulation skills and learn how to cope with stressful situations. An educational setting presents many stressful challenges; however, if a child has experience persevering through a stressful game situation, the child can use the coping skills to succeed at school. Organized sports improve a child’s balance, strength, agility, coordination and endurance. All of these skills are used on a daily basis. Further, increased endurance aids cardiovascular health while reducing the likelihood of developing obesity. In addition, participating in organized sports as a child increases the probability of that child being a physically active adult. Child and adult participation in organized sports decreases the future development of health problems such as cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis and dementia. “Physical inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality, killing more than 5 million people per year” (Huber and Shilton, 2016, para. 3). Death due to physical inactivity is only combatted by physical activity. Overall, being active throughout one’s childhood is not only beneficial in the present, but also for possessing a more enjoyable and longer life in the
