“Executive Action on Gun Control”
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states “a well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms should not be infringed” (LII). Gun control in the United States is a topic that has had some criticism due to the violation of the second amendment, but it also has the support by many citizens who want stricter gun control laws due to the rate of mass shootings increasing over the years. As the result of the many school shootings that have taken place in the last few years, there has been an executive action for stricter gun control laws. President Obama made an executive action speech in January 5, 2016 demanding for gun control due to the mass of shootings that have been occurring in the United States. Furthermore, President Obama begins building his credibility with convincing facts and statistics about the recent past shootings and he also uses pathos to persuade the people to support stricter gun control laws which will end up being effective with the use of this appeals by strengthening his argument throughout his speech. In his speech, President Obama starts by explaining about an event of a shooting that happened five years ago in Arizona with the result of nineteen people being shot and one of them being a member of Congress, and then lists the…
