Euthanasia “Assisted Suicide” In recent discussion of euthanasia, a controversial issue has been whether it should be an option for terminally ill patients. On the one hand, some argue that it is wrong for physicians to help or perform this act on patients who want to die. From this perspective it is wrong to assist someone to die, because they could have a chance to recover. On the other hand, however, others argue that it is up to the patient. In the other words, if the patient is in pain because of their terminal disease and no longer wants to suffer they should be allowed to choose this option. My own view is that if the patient is suffering greatly from the terminally illness they have, they should be allowed to choose to die if they want to end the suffering. Though I concede that it is wrong to help somebody die, I still maintain that it should be allowed. It has become common today to dismiss that euthanasia and assisted suicide lie on a difference on how the action is performed. According to the Law and Social Justice Article on euthanasia July 2012, assisted suicide the patient administers himself the lethal medication the physician has recommended. With euthanasia, the physician administers the lethal medication himself, meaning that the physician injects or gives the medication himself to the patient.
