“Apart from values and ethics which I have tried to live by, the legacy I would like to leave behind is a very simple one - that I have always stood up for what I consider to be the right thing, and I have tried to be as fair and equitable as I could be” (Ratan Tata). Ethics has become a more up raising topic in the land of business and work.“The percentage of businesses with weak ethical cultures, 42 percent, is at the highest level since 2000, a seven-percentage point gain from 2009” (Ethics Resource Center). The amount has increased due to the unfortunate fact of companies executives lacking leadership and ethical behavior. Ethical behavior in the workplace is crucial because it builds relationships between companies and employees within. “A lack of ethical behavior can also cause tension among employees, with some employees resenting those who do not play by the rules and still manage to get ahead” (Stacy Zeiger). People who do not play by the rules and still manage to get ahead are a perfect example of unethical behavior in the workplace. Employees should all be disciplined the same in the workplace, so favoritism isn 't created. Tension within employees can cause the workplace to have a bad atmosphere and the company is at risk of losing and gaining any employees. Workers are not willing to work in an environment that they don 't feel comfortable in, as well as business partners are not willing to sign a deal with a company who lacks discipline and is untrustworthy. Business have made huge improvements within their corporations to show betterment in their business ethics. Business have been enforcing employees to take courses, as well as classes to show proper ethics in the work place. Business have worked to protect their reputation by earning credibility and a proper name for their business. That has helped them achieve the proper credibility from their business. “Far fewer employees believe their direct supervisors act as ethical leaders” (Ethics Resource Centre) . Why only focus your attention on employees making sure they provide great business ethics when the real problems stems from their own superior. A business needs to have an equal amount of discipline. A leader is suppose to earn the respect of their employees to gain trust. Making sure everyone in the corporation is representing the company in and out of work makes the company strong and earns credibility. Employee Motivation Skills reveals, “Improper ethics in your organization will have a negative effect on employee motivation. But the effects of workplace conflicts will be the kiss of death to workplace motivation”(Employee Motivation Skills).
