Currently, there is a multiracial check box, made possible by the Education department’s provisions “surreptitiously and illegally” creating the multiracial category by placing student's behalf of those that checked more than one box. At first, the government was very hesitant over this check box since they thought it would provide nothing useful for them in a long run of demographic analysis. New York Times has said, “By placing students who check more than one box in a ‘two or more races’ category, the Education Department will up racial realities… To hinder this ability to track racial discrimination for the sake of instituting what is essentially a multiracial category is unconscionable.” In a way, the Department is trying to find an equilibrium between sets this check box up on the demographic/non-demographic forms, but they also don’t want the box on there due to track any/all discrimination that could have influenced the individuals to choose what they did. This goes to show the government can easily manipulate and tweak a few things to find out who, when, and why people that are either two or more people are discriminated
