Secretary and Administrative Assistant
Secretaries and assistants are always there when someone needs an extra hand with their work. One of the reasons I am interested in this career is because I like working with others and giving them a hand to be organized in their life or work place. Another reason I am interested in being a secretary or assistant is because I have always disliked being in the leading role. I like asking people to help me out or to do something for me but being in charge is not in my interest. These are the major things that an assistant is specialized in. Assistants and secretaries are what most of the staff relies on, for example the basic things like scheduling calendars, taking calls for the higher staff or simply taking notes of things for their employers. They are also needed to keep records and to help solve a problem among their company. I became aware when I investigated the business field, it seems like a good fit for me and I know it will be stressing at times but it will be a different thing everyday. That is why after careful considerations I have done until now, I believe that an administrative assistant career is what I want to pursue for now. According to Occupational Outlook, secretaries and administrative assistants perform clerical and administrative duties such as organizing files, drafting messages, scheduling appointments and helping the other members of the company.

Other responsibilities are answering phones and taking messages, they handle incoming mail and faxed files (“Secretaries and Administrative”). Sometimes assistants are required to do a little bookkeeping. If he/she is interested in this position a few benefits for them are applied. They have the ability to learn something new everyday and improve on many qualities. For example, they learn to communicate with different types of people and also learn new problem solving skills by working together with other staff members. Assistants also get new skills on how to be organized and work with a good result everyday. These few examples are why an administrative assistant job is perfect for someone like me, I like to meet and deal with new people and also be an organized person.. Many of the administrative assistant positions require a simple high school diploma or associate degree, which can be offered to him/her at a community college or a technical school. They also need knowledge with computer software such as Microsoft office, reading and writing and the basics of accounting (“Administrative assistant courses”). Since most of their time they have read emails, took notes, or drafted messages that are sent out to many other professionals. For these types of certificates and degrees he/she can go to a community college that offers any type of business administration. To get a more secure eligibility, Assistants can try taking an extra computer software courses, or a grammar course since these are highly required. An accounting course is also good to know for this position. The benefits of these small courses is that when he/she applies for an assistant job, they can be easily hired and have a great starting salary. Even though it takes time, it is worth it once you get hired and rewarded for your knowledge. The programs or courses needed in order to become an administrative assistant are simple. Like many community colleges including The Tulsa community college offer a business administration class. This class requires up to 60 credit hours. The course itself is to become an Administrative assistant is 2 years, which is the most common and awards an associate degree. According to Learn.org, The courses required to become an Administrative assistant are courses are, administrative office procedures, communication skills, business writing, keyboarding and computer software skills (“Administrative assistant degree program”). The cost of tuition at Tulsa Community College would be around $2,606 plus the cost of books and supplies which is about $1,248. All estimated net pay would be about $5,940, for students who have certain living expenses like low yearly income. An assistant's living expenses depend on how much the job is paying them. Most entry level earn from 21K - 27K which is a good enough yearly income for someone who lives alone, but if they don’t have many things to pay all
