There was a comprehensive survey of the graduate survey of graduate program directors that there should be more training given in human resource management skills rather than the increased quantitative and financial skills. This survey proved that training is needed when it comes to interpersonal skills. Then it mentioned about Emotional Intelligence Scale. Two psychologists John Mayer and Peter Salovey created the Multifactor Emotional Intelligence Scale which measures four areas of EI. The purpose of this scale was to identify emotions, check for emotions, understanding emotions, and managing emotions. After this is done, it mentioned about competency assessment (social awareness, self-regulation, self-motivation, social awareness, and social skills). Social awareness is having a deep understanding of a person’s emotions, strengths, weaknesses, and needs. Self-regulation is a reflection, ability to adapt to changes. Self-motivation is being passionate over profession. They have their own self-interest. Social awareness is considering someone’s feeling when acting. Last is good social skill which means they are a good negotiator and a good listener. After completing the EI test it described in the summary that in order to increase self-awareness I need to learn about mindfulness. I need to write and analyze the emotional situations I experience from day to day. I need to know my own strengths and weaknesses to build self-awareness. I need to ask my boss and friends about how I can improve. Along with that I want to improve my self-regulation. Self-regulation is staying in control.
